Grantmakers in Film and Electronic Media
Grantmakers in Film and Electronic Media (GFEM) serves as a resource for grantmakers who fund media content, infrastructure, and policy as well as those who employ media to further their program goals. GFEM believes that media play a vital role in shaping, framing, and catalyzing public discourse and culture. Our goal is to advance the field of media arts and public interest media funding. To this end, the GFEM Media Database (http://media.gfem.org) serves as a hub where funders of all kinds can find a rich array of media-related projects that fit their funding priorities. It is a searchable online database that allows organizations to post projects-in-progress that utilize media to address social issues. For funders, GFEM also provides: GFEM Update, a monthly e-newsletter with information of interest to grantmakers concerned with media; Grantmaker Briefings & Conference Sessions, allowing funders to better assess the current state of media; Foundation & Affinity Group Support Services, a curating service providing filmographies for grantmakers to use in support of their programs; Screenings & Discussions, part of the three national conferences of the Council on Foundations Film and Video Festival, Publications and Research Projects.
