Council on the Arts and Humanities for Staten Island
The Council on the Arts and Humanities for Staten Island (COAHSI) cultivates a sustainable and diverse cultural community for the people of Staten Island. COAHSI creates opportunities for dialogue among and works hand-in-hand with individual artists, community leaders, cultural and community-based organizations, large and small foundations and businesses, schools and governmental agencies. In addition, COAHSI offers the following programs and services: • Grant & Award Programs for individual artists, artist collaborations, folk arts, organizations and schools • Free One-on-One Technical Assistance and Professional Development Workshops designed to help artists, artist educators and organizations grow in their disciplines and in their ability to provide art services to the community. General topics include grants instruction, project/proposal development, finding or establishing a venue, and producing events. • Arts-in-Education support and direct programs to schools pre-K through 12. Support includes regrants and a Staten Island Teaching Artist Institute that offers training for new and experienced teaching artists. • Folk Life field work, technical assistance, and public programming with heritage bearers from longstanding and new immigrant communities on Staten Island. • SPARC art programs bringing community teaching artists into Senior Centers. • Networking, Artist Registry and Artist Opportunities for Staten Island artists and arts organizations • Advocacy for artists and arts organizations on the city, state, and national level.
